A little about Janine:

Janine Sides started taking pictures when she was sixteen-years-old, thanks to the support of a high school teacher. After earning a bachelor's degree in Journalism, Janine began working as a photojournalist in the Washington D.C. area. She has traveled all over the world for non-profit and government organizations and publications photographing world events. While working as a photographer, Janine started shooting short films and working in the independent film community in the D.C. area. Most recently, she has made documentaries for the U.S. Department of State before starting the USC Cinematic Arts Graduate program.

A thank you from Janine:

To The Sun Cinematography Award Team,

I am honored to be a recipient of the Sun Cinematography Award for cinematography for the 2010 - 2011 academic year. Thank you for your generous support while I am working on my Cinematic Arts Production graduate degree at USC.

I am currently in my second year of Graduate school. Whatever hobbies and work I pursued, I could not let the camera leave me for long. I love stepping into people's lives, dissolving into the background, and capturing stories through images. Even more than still images, I have become impassioned with telling stories through moving pictures and working relentlessly on finding the best place for the camera to live in the moment. I am endlessly excited about my education and future with cinematography.

Once again, my sincere thanks for the honor of being chosen as a recipient of the Sun Cinematography Award. It is a stepping-stone for what I hope will be greater things to come.

Sincerely,

Janine Sides
