SUN CINEMATOGRAPHY AWARD
ENCOURAGING THE SUCCESS OF FEMALE CINEMATOGRAPHY STUDENTS
January 27, 2018
BIG CHANGES FOR THE SUN CINEMATOGRAPHY AWARD
We are entering our 9th year of the award at an exceptionally exciting time for women in the film industry. People are eager to see stories and media created by women, and even more eager to work with diverse teams than ever before. The Sun Cinematography Award has bolstered the career aspirations of seven women to date, and we look forward to being a tangible part of the momentum that brings more amazing women into critical roles behind the camera.
To this end, we have two exciting announcements:
BLACKMAGIC DESIGN
has become our new sponsor!
Blackmagic Design has joined the Sun Cinematography Awards as an ongoing sponsor to help build the program and create greater exposure. “We are honored to be a part of this awards program,” said Dan May, Blackmagic Design President. “We are passionate about supporting young talent, and feel strongly about helping women achieve their own opportunities in the industry.”
Our new sponsor has committed to providing our award recipients with a full workflow for creating stunning — and hopefully career-changing — work, from professional cameras through editing, color, and delivery.

In our first year with Blackmagic Design, they are providing our recipient with a seat of DaVinci Resolve Studio and the use of an URSA Mini Pro for her upcoming production.
Blackmagic Design has expressed a desire to support our filmmakers beyond the award, and we look forward to seeing how this relationship emerges with the first recipient to receive this generous gift: Madeline Leach.

The Institute for Education, Research & Scholarships
OUR NEW FISCAL SPONSOR
In addition to Blackmagic Design, the awards program has added The Institute for Education, Research & Scholarships (IFERS.org) as their fiscal sponsor. Established in 2004, the Institute is an award-winning California-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity organization dedicated to improving society by providing resources to high achieving students, scientific researchers, community nonprofit projects, and educational organizations. This gives us access to better award opportunities for our recipients, while also making it far easier than ever before to make tax deductible donations, both monetary and in-kind.
We are excited about the possibilities with which we are concluding our first decade of this very special award. The more women we help, the more we honor Charlene’s memory.
Charlene was a woman who believed that dreams could come true. In her name, we are working to make that happen.
